Haemophilus b Polysaccharide Vaccine is used to immunize children who are 24 months to 5 years of age against diseases associated with Haemophilus influenzae type b (aka Hib). These diseases can indeed be life-threatening such as meningitis which affects the brain, and can lead to convulsions, delirium, and even death. There are also other severe illnesses caused by Hib such as piglottitis, which can cause death by suffocation. Bear in mind that Haemophilus b Polysaccharide vaccine is not recommended for children less than 18 months of age. However, it poses minimal risk to the infant when the mother uses it during breastfeeding. Before taking this vaccine, remember to tell your doctor if you have other medical issues, or if you are allergic to the vaccine in question or to any other drug. You should also consult your doctor on whether or not you should take Haemophilus b Polysaccharide Vaccine with food, considering there are certain medicines that should be taken on an empty stomach instead. You must call your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following side effects: difficulty breathing, unusual weakness, itching, or swelling of your face/eyes. Although they’re rather rare, seizures could also happen. You should, of course, contact your doctor if you experience them as well.
