Ibrutinib, which is also known by its brand name «Imbruvica”, is used to treat certain cancers, namely “chronic lymphocytic leukemia, Waldenström's macroglobulinemia, and as a second-line treatment for mantle cell lymphoma, marginal zone lymphoma, and chronic graft vs host disease.”(Wikipeida.com) Just like the other anti-cancer drugs, Ibrutinib works by slowing or stopping the growth of cancer cells. When it comes to its common side effects, this drug can cause nausea, vomiting, joint pain, edema, upper respiratory tract infection, pneumonia, and Stomatitis (inflammation of the mouth and lips) among others. Remember to call your doctor if you experience any of the following side effects: shortness of breath, extreme fatigue, painful urination, or if you have any bleeding that won’t stop. Bear in mind that Ibrutinib, which comes in the form of a capsule, is taken by mouth once daily with or without food, although the absorption of this drug is slightly higher with food. The patient may also take 1-4 capsules at once depending on their prescribed dose.
