Description

Approved for medical use in 2010, Lurasidone is an antipsychotic medication used to treat schizophrenia. It is also used to treat episodes of depression related to bipolar disorder in adults and children who are at least 10 years old. How this drug works is still not clear, although it is believed to involve effects on dopamine and serotonin in the brain. As for the side effects of Lurasidone, they include sleepiness, movement disorders, nausea, and diarrhea. Additionally, this medication has more serious side effects such as the potentially permanent movement disorder tardive dyskinesia, as well as neuroleptic malignant syndrome, an increased risk of suicide, angioedema, and high blood sugar levels. Lurasidone may also increase the risk of dying in older people with psychosis as a result of dementia. It is still unclear, though, if using this drug during pregnancy is safe for both the mother and the unborn child. Therefore, not using it would be the safest option for any woman who is pregnant or wants to be pregnant. Bear in mind that Lurasidone is taken orally as a tablet after a meal or snack that contains a minimum of 350 calories. In fact, studies have shown that if taken on an empty stomach, the amount of drug absorbed is reduced by around 50%. And if you want to mask the bitter taste of these film-coated tablets, simply swallow them whole
