Approved for medical use in 2012, Mirabegron is indicated for the treatment of overactive bladder. According to webmd.com, Mirabegron works by “relaxing a certain bladder muscle (detrusor), which helps the bladder hold more urine and lessens symptoms of overactive bladder”. It is worth noting that you should not use this medication if you have uncontrolled high blood pressure. Besides, it is very important that you tell your doctor beforehand if you’ve ever had kidney or liver disease, or if you’ve ever been treated for urinary problems. And if you’re pregnant or plan on becoming pregnant, you’ll need to consult your healthcare provider before using Mirabegron as it is still not clear if this drug could cause any damage to the fetus. Additionally, taking this medication may not be the safest thing to do if you’re nursing an infant. When it comes to the common side effects, they include headache, dizziness, increased blood pressure, or flu symptoms. Remember to call your doctor if you have any of the following side effects: pounding heartbeats, painful urination, or if you have a hypertensive crisis (i.e. a severe increase in blood pressure). On a side note, you may take Mirabegron with or without food.
