Description

It turns out catsup's origins are anything but American, because in the 17th century, the Chinese mixed a concoction of pickled fish and spices and called it kôe-chiap or kê-chiap, meaning the brine of pickled fish or shellfish. By the early 18th century, English colonists tasted it, and then took it with them to the American colonies. Also commonly known as ketchup, catsup is a sweet and tangy sauce used as a condiment, and is typically made from tomatoes, sugar, and vinegar, with assorted seasonings and spices. Besides, this sauce is usually served hot alongside French fries, hamburgers, hot dogs... etc. As a matter of fact, eating tomato sauces two or more times a week reduces a man’s risk of developing prostate cancer by around 20%. In addition, there are also tests carried out by Finnish scientists that found that ketchup could cut ‘bad cholesterol’.
