Peeled Tomatoes

Description

Peeled tomatoes are usually plump, firm and versatile. Plus, these sun-ripened tomatoes have a rich flavor, dense texture, and bright red color. With only tomatoes and tomato juice, no additives or preservatives, peeled tomatoes break down quickly when cooked. Besides, they are the progenitor of any number of soups, sauces, stews and braises. You can also use them in marinara sauce or on Neapolitan pizza. It is worth noting that tomatoes are the best source of the carotenoid pigment lycopene. In fact, some studies suggest it can help prevent prostate, lung, and stomach cancers. Besides, tomatoes are an interesting exception to the rule that cooking food reduces or destroys valuable micronutrients: lycopene is better absorbed when it has been heated, either during processing or cooking, as the heat turns the molecule into more useful isomers.
