Even though cow’s milk is a staple in many people’s diets around the world and despite the fact that it has always been cherished for its impressive nutrient profile, it still doesn’t make it a suitable option for everyone. For instance, cow’s milk is not suitable for people with milk allergy, lactose intolerance, dietary restrictions... etc, and this is the reason why non-dairy alternatives exist. As the name suggests, plant milk serves as a substitute to people who can’t or choose not to drink milk or consume any form of animal products due to the above-mentioned reasons. What many people may not realize about plant milk, though, is that it has been consumed by humans for over a thousand years. Across various cultures, it has been a traditional beverage and used as an ingredient in sweet and savory dishes, such as curries. As more people choose a plant-based lifestyle or simply cut down on animal products, plant milk is becoming quite popular. These days, and thanks to the ongoing rise of vegetarian alternatives, you can walk down your grocery aisles and find many different plant milk options, like soy milk, almond milk, rice milk … etc.
