The capulin cherry is native and common throughout the Valley of Mexico. It is a red-colored, aromatic, round fruit with a green tint to nearly maroon-black, smooth, tender skin. Besides, its juicy, light green, firm pulp is typically sweet with some astringency similar to wild cherries in some cases. Capulins also happen to be a good source of calcium, phosphorous, fiber and vitamin C. In addition, they are high in polyphenols, a large group of plant chemicals that help fight cellular damage, reduce inflammation, and promote overall health.
