Altretamine, which is sold under the brand name “Hexalen”, is an anti-cancer drug that works by interfering with the growth and spread of cancer cells in the body. According to drugs.com, this medicine is used to “ease the symptoms of ovarian cancer”, and is “usually given after other cancer medicines have been tried without success”. Unfortunately, though, Altretamine will not treat the cancer itself. Bear in mind that you should steer clear of this drug if you have severe nerve problems or severe bone marrow suppression. It is also worth noting that your blood will have to be tested frequently, considering Altretamine “can lower blood cells that help your body fight infections and help your blood to clot.” As for the common side effects of this drug, they include loss of appetite, mood swings, mild tingling, and skin rash. You should, however, call your doctor immediately if you have severe dizziness and vomiting, flu-like symptoms, and convulsions. You should also use safer alternatives in case you’re pregnant or plan a pregnancy as Altretamine could harm the fetus. In addition, breastfeeding while taking this drug is not recommended.
