Description

Beni Shigure daikon radish contains a starch degrading enzyme called diastase that is known to convert starch into sugar which can aid in digestion and help prevent heartburn. Besides, its leaves are also highly nutritious, as they have vitamin C, vitamin E, potassium, calcium and beta carotene. Beni Shigure daikon radish is large in size and similar to the traditional white daikon radish. It is on average about 25 cm in length and 7.5 cm in diameter. Plus, its skin is vivid pink/purple fading to a bright pink tip, a coloring which is a result of a type of polyphenol called anthocyanin. In addition to acting as antioxidants and fighting free radicals, anthocyanins may offer anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, and anti-cancer benefits. As for the texture of Beni Shigure daikon radish, it is crunchy with a delicate radish spice and flavor, which is why this variety can be utilized in culinary preparations both raw and cooked.
